A major military escalation has erupted in the Middle East after joint United States and Israeli airstrikes struck strategic command and security facilities in Tehran, Iran’s capital, including structures linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) command network and other security installations. The strikes represent one of the most significant direct confrontations between Tehran and the US–Israel military alliance in decades.
According to statements from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), its forces successfully destroyed the IRGC headquarters in Tehran, declaring the strike a blow to Iran’s command and control apparatus. CENTCOM described this as a major operational achievement in weakening Iran’s military infrastructure.
Israeli military officials also reported that their forces conducted precision strikes against dozens of targets in the Tehran area, including military command centers, internal security facilities, intelligence headquarters, and other key operational sites in and around the capital. Together with US strikes, these actions aimed to degrade Iran’s ability to plan and execute further military operations.
The offensive follows earlier attacks that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and multiple senior commanders, further intensifying tensions. Iran has responded with widespread missile and drone attacks across the region, targeting US military bases, Israeli territory, and several Gulf states.
Regional and global reactions have been swift, with European officials calling for restraint and diplomatic engagement as the risk of a broader conflict grows. Iran’s leadership, now under a temporary council pending a new supreme leader appointment, has vowed continued resistance and retaliation.
The situation remains highly volatile, with ongoing military exchanges, airspace alerts, and diplomatic efforts underway as nations worldwide track the conflict’s developments.
