Berlin – A grand ceremony was held at the Vietnamese Embassy in Berlin to celebrate two important milestones: the 80th National Day of Vietnam and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany. The event gathered over 200 guests, including senior German officials, ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of Vietnamese communities living in Germany.
The celebrations reflected not only Vietnam's long journey of independence but also the strong bond shared with Germany over the last five decades. Both nations have worked together in areas such as trade, education, culture, and investment, showing a relationship built on trust, respect, and cooperation.
Strengthening Ties and Shared Achievements
During the event, Frank Hartmann, Director General for Asia and the Pacific at the German Federal Foreign Office, highlighted that 80 years of Vietnam’s independence symbolize courage, perseverance, and constant innovation. Likewise, 50 years of Vietnam–Germany relations signify dialogue, mutual respect, and trust. Hartmann emphasized the deep connections between the two countries, including economic partnerships, educational programs, city collaborations, and the Vietnamese community in Germany.
Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyễn Đắc Thành spoke about the progress made over the past 50 years, noting that the bilateral friendship and cooperation have developed strongly and comprehensively. The ambassador highlighted the 2011 Hanoi Declaration, which established the Strategic Partnership for the Future between the two countries. He said that Germany is currently Vietnam’s leading trading partner in the European Union and the 12th largest worldwide. Germany is also Vietnam’s fourth-largest European investor.
Focus on Skilled Workforce and Community Integration
Ambassador Thành underlined the importance of labour and vocational cooperation. Both countries are working together to train skilled human resources to meet the high demand in German businesses and local communities. He also appreciated cultural and artistic activities organised by the Vietnamese community in Germany. These efforts not only showcase Vietnam’s rich culture but also strengthen its ties with local German society.
Thành called on German authorities to continue supporting the Vietnamese community to help them integrate successfully and contribute to both German society and bilateral cooperation. He expressed confidence that the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Germany would grow further, promoting peace, prosperity, sustainable development, and innovation.
Shared History and Future Goals
Bodo Ramelow, Vice President of the German Bundestag, highlighted that although Germany and Vietnam have differences, their histories share surprising similarities. Both countries have experienced division and later reunification. They also share a common approach to development, focusing on internal peace and stability as the basis for growth. Ramelow said the cooperation projects between the two nations show their joint commitment to moving forward together and achieving positive results.
Celebrating Friendship and Collaboration
The ceremony in Berlin was a meaningful occasion to reflect on Vietnam’s 80-year journey and the strong partnership with Germany. The event showcased the value of dialogue, mutual understanding, and collaborative efforts between nations. Over the years, this partnership has brought significant achievements in trade, education, investment, and cultural exchange.
Vietnam’s Embassy in Germany and the Vietnamese community continue to act as a bridge of friendship and collaboration. Their activities in Germany not only strengthen ties with local communities but also contribute to the positive image of Vietnam on the global stage. The celebrations underscored that the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Germany is a model of international friendship based on trust, mutual support, and shared goals.
As Vietnam looks forward to the future, the relationship with Germany is expected to deepen further. Both countries are committed to working together on trade, education, culture, and community integration, ensuring that their partnership continues to grow stronger for decades to come.
The event celebrated not only the achievements of the past but also the promise of continued friendship, collaboration, and mutual growth, symbolizing the shared hopes and aspirations of both Vietnam and Germany.
