Vietnam Raises Over $16 Million to Help Cuban People in Hard Times

Vietnam Raises Over $16 Million to Help Cuban People in Hard Times

Post by : Raman

Vietnam’s people have shown great kindness and generosity by raising a large amount of money to help the people of Cuba during a difficult time. The Việt Nam Red Cross Society started a special fundraising program called “65 Years of Việt Nam – Cuba Solidarity” to support Cuban people facing problems now. The program ran for 65 days, from August 13 to October 16, 2025, with the goal of raising at least VNĐ65 billion (around $2.5 million) to help Cuba.

However, thanks to the kindness of many people across Vietnam, the total donations reached an amazing VNĐ421.5 billion, which is nearly $16 million. This is more than six times the original target. As of Monday at 4 pm, the Red Cross Society reported that over 2 million donations were made. Most of the money, about VNĐ407 billion, came through the Red Cross account at the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank, while another VNĐ13.4 billion was collected by local Red Cross groups in many provinces and cities.

This fundraising campaign became part of a special joint statement during the recent visit of Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, who is the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and the President of Cuba. He visited Vietnam to join the celebrations of Vietnam’s 80th National Day and the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba. The campaign showed the close friendship between the two countries.

Nguyễn Hải Anh, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Việt Nam Red Cross Society, shared that this fundraising campaign received strong support and guidance from the highest levels of the government. Important leaders, including the Politburo, the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, and the Việt Nam Fatherland Front, helped organize the campaign. Many ministries and local authorities also joined in the effort. For example, the Ministry of National Defence, the Vietnam News Agency, and the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union encouraged their members, workers, students, and public employees to donate.

What made this campaign special was how creative people became in helping. Many groups started songwriting contests about the friendship between Vietnam and Cuba. On social media, people came up with different ideas to encourage more donations. Communities, schools, and individuals from across the country took part by giving money happily to support Cuban people.

The campaign also caught the attention of the media in both Vietnam and other countries. Important news outlets like the New York Times and Cuban newspapers such as Prensa Latina, Granma, and Cubadebate reported the success of the fundraising program. The Cuban Embassy in Hà Nội and the Cuban Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City regularly updated the public on how much had been collected and how it would be used.

Nguyễn Hải Anh proudly said that this is the first time the Việt Nam Red Cross Society has been able to collect so much support in such a short time for an international cause. He also promised that the organization will be fully transparent about the money. The public will get regular updates on how the funds are used to help Cuban people, and the process will be open for everyone to see.

This large support from Vietnam shows the strong friendship between the two countries. It also shows how much people care for others when they are in trouble. The money will help Cuban people meet their urgent needs, such as buying food, medicine, and other important things during their difficult time.

The Việt Nam – Cuba Solidarity campaign reminds us of the power of unity and kindness. Even though the two countries are far apart, their hearts are close. The success of this campaign shows that when people work together, they can help each other overcome hardships.

Vietnam’s great support for Cuba will be remembered as an example of friendship, compassion, and international care. The Việt Nam Red Cross Society continues to stand strong in its mission to help not only the people of Vietnam but also others in need around the world.
