Vietnam Targets Historic Win in SEA V.League 2025 Opener

Vietnam Targets Historic Win in SEA V.League 2025 Opener

Post by : Meena Ariff

The Việt Nam women’s national volleyball team is preparing for a very important regional tournament – the SEA V.League 2025, which will begin in August 2025. The first leg of this tournament will take place in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, from August 1 to August 3. The top teams from Southeast Asia—Việt Nam, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines—will be competing.

Việt Nam is especially focused on this year’s event as they prepare to face Thailand, the strongest team in the region and also one of the top teams in the world. The Vietnamese team is hoping for a win over Thailand, which will boost their confidence and help them perform better in other matches, including the 33rd SEA Games coming up later this year.

Thailand: A Tough Team to Beat

Thailand is currently ranked 20th in the world and has been the champion of this region for a long time. They are known for their fast, skillful playing style and have a team full of experienced players. Over the past several years, Việt Nam has never beaten Thailand in this tournament.

From 2019 to 2023, Việt Nam played against Thailand seven times and lost all those matches. However, they showed some improvement in 2022 when they managed to win one set against Thailand. That small success showed that Việt Nam is getting stronger and could be close to winning soon.

Việt Nam’s Growth and Recent Achievements

Even though Việt Nam hasn’t yet defeated Thailand, the team has been improving a lot. In 2024, they gave Thailand a tough fight in two matches, winning three sets altogether, although they still lost both matches. These performances show that Việt Nam is getting closer to Thailand’s level.

Việt Nam’s recent success in international competitions has also built its confidence. They won the AVC Nations Cup 2025 and also got a silver medal at the VTV Cup. These achievements are very important because they show that Việt Nam is becoming stronger on the international stage.

Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt believes that 2025 could be a great year for Vietnamese women’s volleyball. He said that these recent wins show how much the team has improved and why they are aiming high this year.

Importance of the SEA V.League Tournament

Coach Kiệt explained that the SEA V.League 2025 is not just a local event. This year, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) will recognize it as an official tournament, which means that the teams can earn world ranking points from their performance.

This is very important for Việt Nam, which is currently ranked 27th in the world. Their best-ever ranking was 26th, and they want to climb higher. Winning matches, especially against top teams like Thailand, will help them earn more points and improve their ranking.

The tournament also helps teams prepare for the SEA Games, which are one of the biggest sports events in the region. By playing against each other now, teams like Việt Nam, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines will learn more about each other’s strengths and weaknesses. This will help them come up with better game plans for future matches.

Teams Participating in SEA V.League 2025

Here are the four teams playing in the SEA V.League 2025:

  • Thailand – Ranked 20th in the world. Strongest team in Southeast Asia.
  • Việt Nam – Ranked 27th in the world. Getting stronger every year.
  • The Philippines – Ranked 47th in the world. Young and energetic team.
  • Indonesia – Ranked 50th in the world. Known for their teamwork.

This tournament brings together the best teams in Southeast Asia. Every match will be exciting and full of energy.

Coach Kiệt’s Final Team Line-up for SEA V.League 2025

Coach Kiệt has picked some of the best and most experienced players for this tournament. Here are some of the key players to watch:

  • Trần Thị Thanh Thúy – She is the Best Outside Hitter. She is tall, strong, and can smash the ball very well.
  • Nguyễn Thị Bích Tuyền – She is the Most Valuable Player (MVP). She is fast, smart, and always plays with full energy.
  • Nguyễn Khánh Đang – She won the award for Best Libero. Her job is to defend and keep the ball from touching the ground.
  • Nguyễn Thị Trinh – She is one of the top five scorers in the national team. She is known for her powerful spikes.

These players have experience and talent. They will play a very important role in Việt Nam’s journey at the SEA V.League 2025.

Training Camp and Preparation Before the Tournament

To prepare well for this big event, the Vietnamese team completed a special training program. They trained in Tam Đảo, Phú Thọ Province, where they focused on improving their physical strength and stamina. Volleyball is a sport that requires both skill and fitness, so this training was very important.

After finishing the camp, the team is now ready to travel to Thailand for the first leg of the tournament.

Schedule and Locations of the SEA V.League 2025

The SEA V.League 2025 will be held in two parts or legs.

First Leg:

  • Date: August 1 to August 3, 2025
  • Place: Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand

Second Leg:

  • Date: August 8 to August 10, 2025
  • Place: Ninh Bình Province, Việt Nam

After playing in Thailand, the Vietnamese team will return home and host the second part of the tournament. Playing at home will give them the home-crowd support, which can make a big difference.

Coach Kiệt’s Words About the Tournament

Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt shared his thoughts and plans for the tournament. He said:

“The SEA V.League 2025 tournament plays a very important professional role in our region. It includes four strong teams—Thailand, Việt Nam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. We are preparing very carefully and aiming for the top position.”

He also said that this tournament is a great learning opportunity for all teams. By watching and playing against each other, teams will learn new strategies and understand each other’s playing styles better. This knowledge will help when they meet again in the SEA Games later this year.

Việt Nam Is Ready to Rise

Even though the Vietnamese team hasn’t beaten Thailand yet, their constant improvement, strong player line-up, and serious preparation show they are ready to give it their best. Their recent international victories have made them more confident.

The team’s goal is to play well, win matches, and earn world ranking points. This tournament is a big step in their journey to becoming one of the top volleyball teams in Asia.

As the SEA V.League 2025 begins, fans from Việt Nam and across Southeast Asia will be watching closely. It will be an exciting and competitive event that shows how far the sport of volleyball has come in the region.
