Vietnam Plans Top Asian Level Universities

Vietnam Plans Top Asian Level Universities

Post by : Shakul

The government of Vietnam is moving forward with an ambitious plan to develop several major universities in its Southeast region into leading institutions in Asia. The proposal aims to strengthen higher education quality, improve global rankings, and support the country’s long-term development goals.

The initiative was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Le Tien Chau. Officials from multiple ministries and universities attended the meeting to review progress and finalize the roadmap for implementation.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the plan focuses on developing three key universities, including Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and the Vietnamese-German University. These institutions were selected based on their academic strength, autonomy, and international reputation.

The government has emphasized that the development plan will align with national strategies and existing education policies. It aims to create a strong link between education and industry needs, especially in areas like technology, finance, healthcare, and innovation.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau stressed the importance of setting clear targets and measurable criteria. He highlighted that universities must define their ranking goals based on recognized global systems to ensure transparency and consistency across institutions.

The plan also focuses on three main pillars: funding, infrastructure, and policy support. Authorities are working to ensure that financial resources are properly allocated and that institutions receive the support needed to achieve their targets.

Vietnam aims to have at least eight universities ranked among the top 200 in Asia and one institution in the top 100 globally in specific fields by 2030. Officials believe this initiative will help build a highly skilled workforce and strengthen the country’s position in global education.
