Vietnam officially welcomed Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico during his visit from April 12 to 14, 2026, with a grand ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. The event was led by Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, marking a significant moment in bilateral relations.
Expressing his pleasure, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung personally received Robert Fico upon arrival, highlighting the importance of the visit as the first international engagement under his leadership. The visit comes at a time when Vietnam and Slovakia continue to strengthen their traditional friendship and expand cooperation.
This marks Robert Fico’s third official visit to Vietnam, following earlier visits in 2008 and 2016. Notably, he is also the first high-ranking European Union leader to visit Vietnam after the upgrade of Vietnam-EU relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The welcoming ceremony was conducted with full honors, including a red carpet reception, national anthems, and an inspection of the Honor Guard of the Vietnam People’s Army. The leaders also introduced their respective delegations, symbolizing mutual respect and diplomatic warmth.
Following the ceremony, both leaders proceeded to the Government Headquarters for formal talks and witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements. They also visited an exhibition showcasing the history, culture, and longstanding relations between Vietnam and Slovakia.
Over the past decades, Vietnam and Slovakia have maintained steady growth in economic and trade relations, with bilateral trade projected to reach nearly $1.78 billion in 2025. Slovakia has also invested in multiple projects in Vietnam, reflecting deepening economic ties.
The visit is expected to further strengthen political trust, expand cooperation across sectors such as trade, technology, and culture, and open new opportunities for future collaboration between the two nations.
