Global Disruption: Anthropic's Claude AI Experiences Widespread Outage

Global Disruption: Anthropic's Claude AI Experiences Widespread Outage

Post by : Badri Ariffin

On Tuesday, Anthropic's AI chatbot, Claude, encountered a significant global outage, interrupting services for users accessing its website, desktop app, mobile app, and API integrations.

Reports from Downdetector indicated a sharp increase in outage notifications around midday, signaling a comprehensive service breakdown. Complaints flooded in almost instantly, suggesting the issue affected users universally rather than in isolated pockets.

The outage impacted numerous components of the Claude ecosystem. Users predominantly reported being unable to access the main website, with others encountering difficulties through both desktop and mobile applications. Several users noted issues with loading conversations, experiencing blank responses, or an overall sluggish and unresponsive platform.

Additionally, Claude's API services, essential for businesses and developers incorporating Anthropic's AI capabilities, faced disruptions, leading to errors and interruptions in numerous third-party tools and services reliant on Claude.

Engaging on social media and various online platforms, users shared experiences of failures, error messages, and blank chatbot responses through screenshots.

Anthropic acknowledged the situation on its official status page, indicating "elevated errors across multiple models." The outage impacted critical AI models such as Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Claude 3 Opus, and Claude 3 Haiku.

Later updates marked the status as "Identified," signifying that engineers were working diligently to pinpoint the issue and implement a solution.

While an exact timeline for service restoration hasn’t been provided, the outage has disrupted numerous users globally—professionals, students, and developers alike—who rely on Claude for everyday tasks, coding help, research, and content creation.

As the situation develops, Anthropic is actively working towards normalizing operations while users await the restoration of full service across Claude's platforms.
