Ottawa Youths Detained After Hate Crime at OC Transpo Station

On Tuesday at 3:15 p.m., Ottawa police responded to an incident reported as a hate-motivated assault at Billings Bridge OC Transpo station, coinciding with the busy evening commute.

Upon arrival, officers found three youths hurling offensive slurs at victims, leading to a physical altercation. During this confrontation, conducted energy weapons were brandished but were not deployed.

A brave bystander stepped in to aid the victims and was met with threats involving one of the weapons.

All three youths have been arrested on various charges, which include assault, making threats, and weapon-related offenses. Their identities remain confidential as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Ottawa police expressed gratitude to the witness for their intervention and encouraged the community to report any incidents driven by hate.
