Post by : Meena Ariff

Zarine Khan, the renowned actress, model, and interior designer, peacefully passed away at her home in Mumbai on Friday morning, at the age of 81. She had been facing health challenges related to her age. Her passing marks the conclusion of a remarkable chapter that saw Zarine evolve from a beloved film star during the 1960s and 1970s into a highly respected figure in the field of interior design. The arts community and fans are in mourning for a multi-talented individual whose influence spanned numerous decades.

Background and Early Life

Born Zarine Katrak, she hailed from a Parsi family but grew up in a Hindu environment. This blend of cultures played a significant role in shaping her life choices. Later in life, she married prominent Bollywood actor and filmmaker Sanjay Khan, intertwining their lives within the artistic world.

Zarine initiated her film career in the early 1960s, quickly gaining fame as a talented actress and model. She captivated audiences with her performances in classic films, including Tere Ghar Ke Samne (1963), where she starred alongside the iconic Dev Anand. Zarine's elegance, charm, and effortless style made her a favorite among fans.

Though she was widely adored for her acting, Zarine transitioned away from the spotlight to follow her passion for interior design, where she found another avenue for which to shine.

Legacy as an Interior Designer

After stepping back from her film career, Zarine Khan successfully ventured into the world of interior design, where she was known for her exquisite taste and imaginative vision. She contributed to numerous prestigious projects throughout India, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of various personal and commercial spaces. Her design ethos married elegance with practicality, earning her a distinguished reputation in the community.

Despite her accomplishments, Zarine lived a life of humility, shying away from media attention to prioritize her family and creative endeavors.

Passing and Funeral

Sadly, Zarine Khan slipped away at her Mumbai residence following a prolonged illness tied to her age. Her funeral took place on the same day, with her son, Zayed Khan, cherishing the final rites. These rituals adhered to Hindu customs, reflective of the upbringing Zarine embraced despite her Parsi heritage. Videos from the ceremony captured Zayed's emotional struggle during the rituals, revealing the depth of family sorrow.

The choice to perform Hindu rites raised questions among some internet users, but it served as an homage to Zarine’s familial and personal beliefs.

Condolences from Bollywood

The news of Zarine Khan’s demise prompted a wave of condolences from the Bollywood community. Numerous celebrities visited her family home to pay their respects, including Hrithik Roshan and Saba Azad, who arrived somberly. Bobby Deol was visibly emotional as he stepped outside the residence following the rituals.

Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan attended with her daughter, Shweta, while other notable figures such as Jackie Shroff, Nargis Fakhri, and Rakul Preet Singh were also present to deliver their sympathies. This gathering exemplified Zarine’s significant impact on both the film and design industries.

Family Legacy

Zarine Khan is survived by her husband, Sanjay Khan, a celebrated actor and filmmaker known for his contributions to Indian cinema. Their children include renowned interior designer Sussanne Khan, Simone Arora, Farah Ali Khan, and actor Zayed Khan. Zarine's legacy endures through her family members, many of whom have carved their own paths in the creative sectors.
