Explore May's Engaging Events at Zayed National Museum

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Zayed National Museum, representing the United Arab Emirates, has officially unveiled its May Learning and Public Engagement Programme. This initiative encourages guests to delve into the rich history, culture, and heritage of the UAE through guided tours, workshops, and various interactive educational experiences.

A standout feature this month is the programme titled “A Dive into Pearling”, which focuses on the cultural and historical significance of pearl diving within the UAE. This special initiative includes tailored tours and hands-on workshops, allowing visitors to uncover the preparation methods of pearl divers and the teamwork, skills, and traditions that characterize coastal living.

Marking a significant occasion, on 6th May the museum will honour the 50th anniversary of the UAE Armed Forces' unification. This special event will showcase performances, workshops, and guided tours that symbolize national unity and identity, capped with an exclusive Al Azi performance by Hamad Al Amri at 6pm.

To celebrate International Museum Day, a unique weekend event will take place from 16th to 18th May, featuring creative workshops and live performances demonstrating the vital role of museums in fostering cultural connections.

During Eid Al Adha, the museum will host the “The Joy of Eid” event on Eid's first day, offering visitors cultural performances, family-friendly activities, and immersive experiences highlighting UAE's Eid traditions.

The museum will also be continuing its “From Museum to Community” initiative, conducting roadshows in Al Ain Region, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah, aimed at engaging with local communities and cultural specialists.

Accessibility remains paramount, with the museum providing various Access Programmes, including the UAE History Tour guided by Emirati experts, storytelling tours in the “By Our Coasts” and “To Our Roots” galleries, and specialised activities like Quiet Morning designed to create a serene environment. The Al Dhuha Hour: Traditional Tassels programme targets senior citizens and those with dementia, blending guided tours with creative workshops.

Visitors throughout May can join various ongoing tours such as A Walk Through Our History (offered in Emirati Sign Language) and A Walk Among Our Wings. Family-centric workshops include Oasis Weaving, Build Your Museum, Create Your Calming Necklace, and Tree of Values.

Furthermore, the museum presents the Al Bahara on-site learning programme, providing valuable hands-on sessions for students and educators on UAE’s maritime heritage, highlighting boatbuilding and pearling traditions.
