Another action-packed week of elite tennis awaits in Abu Dhabi as defending champion Belinda Bencic and rising star Alexandra Eala confirm their spots for the 2026 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open. This exciting WTA 500 tournament is scheduled at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City, from January 31 to February 7.
Belinda Bencic, who holds the World No. 11 ranking, returns after her victorious campaigns in 2023 and 2025. Her last triumph was particularly special as she celebrated in front of thousands, alongside her daughter, Bella. Renowned for her precision and tactical prowess, the Swiss star remains unbeaten at the Abu Dhabi Open, making her one to follow closely this year.
“Returning as the defending champion feels surreal,” Bencic expressed. “The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open is incredibly close to my heart. The atmosphere here is always electric, and the fans' support is truly unforgettable.”
Joining Bencic is 20-year-old Alexandra Eala, who is eager to return after a commendable showing in 2024. Eala has made impressive strides in the WTA rankings, breaking into the Top 50 this year following a series of standout performances. As a former US Open girls' singles champion and a product of the Rafa Nadal Academy, she has emerged as a top talent from Asia and the highest-ranked Filipino player in Tour history.
“My experience in Abu Dhabi in 2024 was a dream come true,” Eala shared. “The fans' encouragement was uplifting, and I’m looking forward to coming back even stronger to face the best.”
The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open has rapidly become a key event in the region, attracting top-tier players and enthusiastic crowds. Following a record-breaking edition in 2025, the 2026 tournament is poised to deliver another week rich in thrilling matches, family-friendly entertainment, and vibrant community involvement. Anticipation is high as Bencic seeks to defend her title and Eala aims for continued success on the global stage.
