More than 23.6 million people in Peninsular Malaysia will soon pay fairer and lower prices for their electricity. The government has approved a new plan that will start on July 1, 2025, and last until December 31, 2027. This new plan is called the Incentive-Based Regulation, which means the electricity prices are set based on the real costs of supplying power.
The new rules will change three main things:
The average price for electricity will now be 45.40 sen for each unit (kWh), which is a bit less than before. Because of this, the overall cost of electricity will drop by up to 19% compared to the last plan.
The new system also changes how users are grouped, with different prices and rewards for homes and businesses, depending on how much electricity they use and what kind of voltage they need. Each part of your bill—like energy, capacity, network, and retail—will now be based on real costs.
This new plan is meant to be fair, and clear, and to help everyone, making sure Malaysia’s energy system is strong and ready for the future.
