The highly anticipated rom-com Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, featuring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, is set to hit theatres on Christmas Day. Unfortunately, early indicators suggest it may face a sluggish start at the box office.
Despite advance ticket sales opening three days prior to release, audience interest has been tepid. By noon on December 24, trade analysis platform Sacnilk indicated that only about 51,000 tickets had been sold nationwide for the opening day. The film's advance collection is approximately ₹1.97 crore, falling just short of the ₹2 crore threshold as the pre-sales period concluded.
For a festive release, these figures are viewed as disappointing. Although romantic comedies typically debut at lower figures compared to action-packed flicks and blockbuster spectacles, it’s expected that Christmas releases take advantage of holiday audiences. In this instance, the anticipated festive uplift seems to be minimal.
The film's struggles can largely be attributed to tough competition. The impressive box office success of Dhurandhar continues to captivate cinema-goers nationwide. Additionally, the arrival of Avatar: Fire and Ash has constrained the number of available screens, complicating showtime arrangements for Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, especially in single-screen venues.
Sources reveal that producers have requested at least two daily screenings in single-screen theatres and additional slots in multiplexes based on their capacity. Despite these requests, many cinemas have opted to prioritise Dhurandhar, leading to a delay or limitation in advance bookings for the rom-com. This lack of exposure could significantly hinder the film's earnings during its initial weekend.
Directed by Sameer Sanjay Vidwans, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri revolves around a classic enemies-to-lovers narrative, a well-loved trope in romantic storytelling. The cast, alongside Aaryan and Panday, features seasoned actors like Neena Gupta, Jackie Shroff, and Aruna Irani, bringing depth and credibility to the film.
Despite its underwhelming start, the film's trajectory may well be influenced by audience reactions post-release. Romantic comedies can sometimes build momentum if viewers resonate with the narrative and performances. However, with limited showtimes and formidable competition, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is faced with challenges at the box office in its critical early days.
