In a significant advancement for cloud technology, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud revealed a new multicloud networking solution on Sunday. This initiative enables companies to quickly set up high-speed private connections between the two platforms within minutes—a task that used to require weeks.
This partnership follows a recent AWS outage on October 20 that impacted countless websites globally, affecting well-known applications such as Snapchat and Reddit. Analysts predict that this incident inflicted losses of approximately $500 million to $650 million on U.S. businesses.
The newly launched service combines AWS' Interconnect with Google Cloud's Cross-Cloud Interconnect, designed to facilitate seamless data transfer across different clouds and lessen the risk of downtime. Early partners like Salesforce are currently evaluating the service to enhance their application performance and maintain reliable connectivity.
As organizations increasingly depend on cloud technology and AI-oriented solutions, major tech firms are investing significantly to expand their infrastructure. AWS continues to lead as the world's top cloud provider, with third-quarter earnings hitting $33 billion, more than double Google Cloud's $15.16 billion. This new multicloud initiative signals a wider trend towards tech partnerships aimed at satisfying the growing need for swift, dependable, and adaptable cloud offerings.
