Arsenal supporters enjoyed a weekend to remember as their side edged Crystal Palace 1-0, while title rivals Manchester City were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa — a combination that leaves Arsenal four points ahead at the top of the Premier League table. The twin results strengthened the Gunners' position and intensified the title race.
The decisive moment at the Emirates arrived in the 39th minute when Eberechi Eze, facing his former club, converted from close range. Gabriel’s header from Declan Rice’s free kick fell kindly for Eze, who finished first time past Dean Henderson. Showing respect for his old teammates, Eze did not celebrate, earning a round of applause across the stadium. Manager Mikel Arteta hailed the performance, describing the victory as one of the most valuable of the season and a sign of the squad’s determination.
At Villa Park, Manchester City were undone early as Matty Cash met Emiliano Buendia’s corner to score in the 19th minute, securing Aston Villa’s fourth straight win. City, who had been unbeaten in nine fixtures, struggled to recover; Erling Haaland’s late strike was chalked off for offside. Captain Bernardo Silva admitted the team’s pressing was substandard and accepted that a lacklustre display cost them.
Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur moved up to third after a commanding 3-0 victory over Everton. Defender Micky van de Ven struck twice in the first half — the first Spurs defender to score a Premier League brace in 12 years — while Guglielmo Vicario produced several fine saves and substitute Pape Matar Sarr wrapped up the win. “Winning 3-0 away in the Premier League is massive,” the manager reflected after the match.
Bournemouth continued their strong start with a 2-0 triumph against Nottingham Forest that pushed them into second place. Marcus Tavernier scored directly from a corner and Eli Junior Kroupi added a spectacular long-range effort to seal the victory. Coach Andoni Iraola praised his side’s discipline and hunger, calling their early-season form "unbelievable."
At the other end of the table, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ difficulties deepened following a 3-2 home defeat to Burnley. Wolves recovered from two goals down with strikes from Jorgen Strand Larsen and Marshall Munetsi, but Burnley snatched a stoppage-time winner, leaving Wolves without a league victory and anchored at the foot of the standings.
Current standings show Arsenal on 22 points from nine matches, Bournemouth second on 18, while Tottenham and Sunderland sit on 17 each. Manchester City’s surprise loss leaves them six points behind Arsenal, tightening an increasingly captivating title race as Arteta’s side look more composed and confident in their bid for the crown.
