A tragic explosion occurred earlier today at a university cafeteria in Bukit Damansara, claiming one life and injuring nine others.
The blast, originating from an air-conditioner compressor room on the cafeteria’s Level 4 during routine maintenance, caused significant damage to nearly one-third of the floor. Remarkably, no fire broke out following the explosion.
Emergency services responded swiftly after receiving a distress call around 11:51 a.m. Multiple fire teams from nearby stations arrived, including a Hazmat unit to assess potential gas leaks. The area was later confirmed safe from hazardous gases, and authorities stated that the situation remained under control.
Among the injured were four students, two canteen staff, an in-house technician, and two contractors. The 24-year-old contractor who suffered critical injuries succumbed to his wounds at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion, with authorities focusing on the maintenance procedures in the compressor room at the time of the incident.
