BAAI Launches RoboBrain 2.0 to Power China's Smarter Robots

BAAI Launches RoboBrain 2.0 to Power China's Smarter Robots

Post by : Jyoti Gupta

The Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence (BAAI), a big research lab in China, has created a new open-source AI model called RoboBrain 2.0. This powerful AI is made to act like a "brain" for robots and help them work better. It was launched during BAAI’s big yearly meeting in Beijing.

This new robot brain comes at a time when China is working hard to build smarter and more useful robots, especially humanoid robots — the ones that look and act like people.

Wang Zhongyuan, the head of BAAI, said that RoboBrain 2.0 is the most powerful open-source robot AI in the world. It can help all kinds of robots think better, move better, and plan their tasks more clearly. It is 17% faster and 74% more accurate than the older version they released just three months ago.

RoboBrain 2.0 helps robots understand space better — like how far things are around them — and also breaks big jobs into smaller steps so they can do things more smoothly.

RoboBrain 2.0 is part of a big group of tools BAAI is building. They also introduced RoboOS 2.0, a cloud system for sharing robot brains, and Emu3, an AI that can understand and create text, pictures, and videos.

Other teams in China are also working on robot brains. One group called the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Centre created a smart AI system called Hui Si Kai Wu, which they want to become the "Android" of humanoid robots — just like Android is for smartphones.

BAAI has also joined hands with the Hong Kong Investment Corporation to bring together smart people, new technology, and money to support robot research and AI startups.

Even though the U.S. added BAAI to a trade block list in March BAAI still continues to grow and improve their work.

Over 100 AI scientists and more than 200 tech experts from companies like Baidu, Huawei, Tencent, and robot makers like Unitree Robotics and Zhipu AI joined the conference to share ideas and support the AI and robotics world in China.
