Bayern Munich are in remarkable form this season, achieving 13 consecutive victories across all competitions. The team, under the leadership of coach Vincent Kompany, now prepares to face Cologne in the German Cup second round on Wednesday. Their consistent performance has not only secured their dominance in the Bundesliga but also placed them among Europe’s top-performing teams.
The Bavarian giants recently defeated Borussia Moenchengladbach 3–0 away from home, maintaining a perfect record of 24 points from eight league matches. The win also equalled AC Milan’s record from the 1992–93 season for the best start to a campaign in Europe’s top five leagues.
Speaking at a press conference, Vincent Kompany expressed his satisfaction with the team’s discipline and hunger for victory. “We are doing a lot of things right at the moment, and we have to take this into the next game,” he said. Kompany praised Cologne’s defensive structure but emphasized Bayern’s determination to keep winning.
“Cologne have done it well defensively and deserve credit. They play with urgency and energy. However, we are very hungry for this Cup,” Kompany added. His comments reflect Bayern’s focus not just on league dominance but also on reclaiming glory in domestic cup competitions.
The German champions are set for a challenging week, with three crucial matches scheduled within seven days. After the Cup clash against Cologne, Bayern will host Bayer Leverkusen in a top-of-the-table Bundesliga fixture on Saturday. This will be followed by a high-profile UEFA Champions League encounter against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain next Tuesday.
Kompany acknowledged the physical and mental demands of such a tight schedule but emphasized the team’s depth and professionalism. “This is where our preparation matters the most. Every match is a test, and our goal is to maintain our rhythm,” he said.
Bayern Munich’s last appearance in a German Cup final was in 2020, when they won the title. Since then, the club has focused on building consistency across competitions. Sports director Christoph Freund highlighted the team’s motivation, saying, “The hunger for tomorrow is big. It’s a knockout match, and everyone wants to go back to Berlin for the German Cup final.”
This desire reflects Bayern’s ambition to reclaim domestic cup dominance while balancing their commitments in the Bundesliga and Europe. The players are aware of the high expectations from fans and management alike.
Despite Bayern’s incredible form, opponents Cologne are not to be underestimated. Playing at home, they are expected to put up a strong fight. Kompany acknowledged Cologne’s resilience, saying, “They have every right to believe in their chances.”
Cologne’s strong defensive organisation could make it difficult for Bayern to break through early. However, with attacking stars such as Harry Kane, Leroy Sané, and Jamal Musiala in top form, Bayern remain favourites to advance to the next round.
Bayern Munich’s 13-match winning streak stands as one of the most impressive starts in modern European football. Their consistency reflects not only tactical excellence but also the unity and hunger within the squad. As they chase their 14th straight victory, Bayern’s focus remains sharp, with an eye on multiple trophies this season.
If they continue their winning ways, the Bavarian club could set new benchmarks for excellence in both domestic and international football. Fans are hopeful that this winning streak will carry them deep into the season, possibly culminating in a treble-winning campaign.
