Xia Baolong, a top official from Beijing, is coming to Hong Kong for five days, starting Wednesday. The main reason for his visit is to join a big forum about the national security law, which has been in place for five years. This forum will happen on Saturday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. There will be important speeches in the morning and two group discussions in the afternoon. One group will talk about how to make Hong Kong’s legal system even better for national security, and the other will discuss how young people can help keep Hong Kong safe and love their city.
During his trip, Xia will also meet with university leaders and teachers to talk about how Hong Kong can help China become stronger in technology and keep talented people in the city. He might also check on big projects like the Northern Metropolis, which is a huge plan to turn land near the border into a busy area for business and homes.
The Chief Executive of Hong Kong, John Lee, said Xia cares a lot about both the safety and development of Hong Kong. Xia will meet people from different backgrounds to hear their ideas and see how the city is growing. This visit comes just a few weeks after a new leader was chosen for Beijing’s office in Hong Kong, showing that there is a new focus on helping the city’s economy.
Xia has visited Hong Kong before, meeting with business leaders, government officials, and even families, to understand what the city needs. This time, his visit is seen as very important for Hong Kong’s future in both security and development.
