Billy Bob Thornton Addresses Blood Locket Controversy with Angelina Jolie

Billy Bob Thornton Addresses Blood Locket Controversy with Angelina Jolie

Post by : Meena Ariff

In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, Billy Bob Thornton has revisited the notorious tale surrounding his past romance with Angelina Jolie. He took the opportunity to clarify the long-standing myth that the two wore vials of each other’s blood, a rumor that over time has been humorously exaggerated by the public.

Thornton stated, “We each had a little locket, literally with a drop of blood in them,” noting that the token was meant to be intimate and affectionate, as opposed to the sensationalized narrative spun by the media.

“That’s a romantic little idea, and that is all that was. But by the time it’s over, we’re vampires. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other’s blood, and this kind of stuff,” he said, infusing humor into the bizarre association.

Reflecting on their bond, he admitted that he shared a profound connection with Jolie, stating, “And of course, Angelina and I had a great time together. That was one of the greatest times of my life,” insisting the public’s view distorted the truth of their relationship.

Despite their breakup, Thornton emphasized the amicable nature of their separation. “We’re still very, very close friends. And that was the one that ended up being a really civilized breakup,” he clarified, pointing out that differing lifestyles were the root cause of their split rather than any personal disagreements.

Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie met during the filming of Pushing Tin in 1999. They tied the knot in a spontaneous Las Vegas ceremony in 2000, later announcing plans to adopt Maddox in 2002. Their marriage concluded in 2003.

Even years after their divorce, the blood-vial rumor lingered. Thornton previously spoke on the topic in 2014 at Loyola Marymount University, sharing that Jolie suggested they each place a drop of blood inside a small locket kit she had purchased. “Nothing more dramatic than that,” he stated back then.

Thornton's recent remarks aim to finally quell the speculations, underscoring that the gesture was nothing more than a private and heartfelt symbol, far from the vampire-esque mythology created by the media.
