The family of the late Zarine Khan, who was married to veteran actor Sanjay Khan, held a poignant prayer meet in Mumbai. This gathering drew close family, friends, and numerous Bollywood personalities who came together to celebrate the memory of the cherished matriarch.
Notable attendees included Jitendra, Salim Khan, Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik Roshan, Saba Azad, Saif Ali Khan, and Fardeen Khan. The event radiated warmth and nostalgia as those who knew Zarine recounted stories highlighting her kindness and generosity.
Sussanne Khan Overwhelmed with Emotion
Zarine’s daughter, interior designer Sussanne Khan, appeared emotionally affected during the ceremony. Amid the guests, she was unable to contain her tears as she took in photos of her mother displayed on a screen, featuring Zarine across various stages of her life, surrounded by loved ones.
Several priests from diverse faiths offered prayers, echoing Zarine’s inclusive and compassionate spirit. Family members, including her grandchildren, shared loving recollections about her, celebrating the life lessons she imparted and the warmth she brought into their lives.
Sanjay Khan Remembers Their Early Days
Actor-producer Sanjay Khan recalled the moment he first encountered Zarine and the day he proposed to her.
“I was 18 when I met her, and she was just 14,” he reminisced. “When I gazed into her bright, enchanting eyes, it felt like I was looking at the universe. I asked her, ‘Will you marry me?’ She replied, ‘If my feelings remain the same after a year, I’ll say yes.’ In that moment, I recognized not just her beauty, but her wisdom — the kind of woman destined to be a wonderful wife.”
The couple enjoyed a long and devoted bond, recently celebrating 59 years of marriage in April 2025.
Hrithik Roshan’s Sincere Remembrance
Hrithik Roshan, who was formerly married to Zarine’s daughter Sussanne, also offered a touching tribute to his former mother-in-law. “It has been a gift to love and be loved by you,” he said, referring to Zarine as a woman whose warmth impacted everyone she encountered.
Zarine’s son Zayed Khan shared, “My mother was my everything. I will miss her deeply.”
A Heartfelt Message from Farah Khan Ali
Posting a video from the event, Zarine’s daughter Farah Khan Ali expressed her emotions on social media. “To the world, she was Zarine Sanjay Khan. But to us, she was simply our mother. She made everyone feel cherished and recognized, regardless of their background or faith,” she commented.
Farah continued, “I feel fortunate to have witnessed the love pouring in for her. My mother cultivated us with her kindness and strength. Her name, Zarine, translates to ‘golden,’ and that’s precisely what she was — pure gold. We will honor her legacy.”
In Loving Memory of Zarine Khan
Zarine Khan passed away on November 7, 2025, at the age of 81. She leaves behind her husband Sanjay Khan, daughters Sussanne, Farah, and Simone Arora, as well as son Zayed Khan. Renowned for her grace and warmth, Zarine was instrumental in uniting her family and supporting her husband's enduring career in film.
