China is building a big new airplane called the C929. This plane is special because it is the first large widebody passenger jet made by a Chinese company. The C929 is designed to carry up to 440 people and can fly as far as 12,000 kilometers, which is about the distance from Shanghai to New York.
The company making the C929 hopes the plane will be ready for its first commercial flight by 2035. Before that, they plan to finish the plane’s design and get it approved for flying in China by 2032. Right now, they are working on building the first parts, and some big pieces are expected to be ready by 2027.
The C929 will look similar to other big planes like the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. China wants to use this plane to compete with these famous brands. The C929 will also have new technology to make flights more comfortable and safe.
China’s first main passenger jet, the C919, started flying passengers in 2023. The C929 is much bigger and can fly much farther. The company is also working with some companies from other countries to get important parts for the C929, like brakes and sensors. However, they have not picked an engine for the C929 yet, which is a big decision they need to make soon.
In the future, China hopes to sell the C929 to airlines in China and around the world, making it a strong competitor in the airplane market.
