Moderate Box Office Start for Ajay Devgn’s De De Pyaar De 2

Moderate Box Office Start for Ajay Devgn’s De De Pyaar De 2

Post by : Meena Ariff

Ajay Devgn’s eagerly awaited sequel, De De Pyaar De 2, was released in theatres on Friday, featuring Rakul Preet Singh alongside R. Madhavan and Meezaan Jafri in key roles. Directed by Anshul Sharma and scripted by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain, the film has garnered mixed reviews on its opening day.

According to early estimates, De De Pyaar De 2 brought in around Rs 8.5 crore on its debut day. Although this figure is slightly less than the Rs 9.11 crore collected by the original 2019 film, it has outpaced another recent offering of Devgn, Son of Sardaar 2, which opened at Rs 7.5 crore. In contrast, the original Son of Sardaar (2012) debuted with a stronger Rs 10.7 crore, illustrating the varying success of sequels in Devgn’s recent movie lineup.

Among Devgn’s releases this year, Raid 2 has had the best opening, amassing Rs 19.25 crore on its first day under the direction of Raj Kumar Gupta and featuring Riteish Deshmukh.

De De Pyaar De 2 also includes Javed Jaafery, Ishita Dutta, and Gautami Kapoor among its ensemble cast. Devgn and Madhavan, who last collaborated in Vikas Bahl’s Shaitaan, had a significant previous hit together that opened at Rs 14.75 crore and grossed Rs 147 crore domestically. The sequel launched across over 5,100 screens nationwide, aiming to recapture the original's magic while appealing to a broader audience.

While the initial box office figures indicate a muted start, the weekend and following weekdays will reveal if De De Pyaar De 2 can achieve lasting box office success. With its captivating storyline, diverse cast, and sequel appeal, the film has the potential to draw in viewers despite its moderate opening numbers.
