Bollywood producer Mukesh Bhatt, known for his work on the film Savi, recently suggested in an interview that Divya Khosla Kumar may have fabricated the Savi vs Jigra controversy for publicity purposes. This assertion triggered widespread reactions on social media and among industry peers, casting a shadow over Divya's reputation.
In a distinctive response, Divya disclosed a recording of a phone conversation where she addressed Mukesh directly about his comments. During this call, Mukesh explicitly refuted ever accusing her, stating, “Neither did anyone ask me, nor did I tell anyone. This is generated by individuals pursuing their own agendas.” He also commented on the timing of the negative press coinciding with Divya’s birthday, suggesting it was aimed to inflict emotional damage. Mukesh encouraged her to remain resilient and concentrate on her upcoming projects.
Divya posted the recording on Instagram, expressing her disbelief and disappointment regarding the situation. She asserted the necessity of revealing the truth in public domains, especially for artists and fans who have endured hierarchical pressures and unfair practices within the film sector. Divya highlighted that certain factions aim to undercut authentic talent and careers, asserting that such attitudes should not be accepted. She resolved to continue advocating against these practices and push for greater transparency in the industry.
The dispute surrounding Savi and Jigra originated in 2024, when Divya accused the creators of Jigra of appropriating the narrative of her film Savi, focusing particularly on the jailbreak motif. Additionally, she articulated concerns that Jigra’s box-office figures appeared exaggerated, implying that ticket sales were artificially boosted to enhance its perceived success. Previously, Mukesh Bhatt had suggested that some industry disputes are orchestrated for publicity, while also commending Alia Bhatt for her integrity in avoiding such maneuvers.
This incident has shed light on the intricacies and politics inherent in Bollywood, illustrating how disputes concerning concepts and public remarks can escalate rapidly. Divya’s choice to publish the call marks a notable shift in the industry, reinforcing a growing movement among artists who are beginning to challenge unjust practices and demand accountability.
