In a shocking incident on Monday evening, Sector 26 in Chandigarh became the backdrop for a violent crime as gangster Inderpreet Singh, commonly referred to as Parry, was fatally shot in a well-planned, two-part attack near Timber Market. CCTV footage captured the distressing events: gunfire erupted from within his vehicle, followed by additional shots fired from a pursuing Hyundai Creta.
The incident occurred around 6:30 pm as Parry left the Kala Ghoda Club with a friend in his Kia. Just a short distance into their drive, the passenger allegedly drew a firearm and shot at him from close range, leaving behind five spent cartridges. Moments later, a white Hyundai Creta carried out the final assault, firing six more rounds to ensure his demise.
Bystanders quickly transported him to PGIMER, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Forensic experts later discovered several bullet impacts on the Kia, underscoring the careful preparation behind the ambush.
A Life Marked by Criminal Activity
In his mid-30s, Parry had accrued a lengthy criminal history in Punjab and Chandigarh, encompassing murder, extortion, and possession of illegal firearms. As the son of a retired Punjab Police sub-inspector, he was involved in notable cases, including the Kotkapura killings and hotel extortion schemes. In March 2022, Chandigarh Police seized a Glock pistol and a U.S.-made rifle during a raid at his residence for extortion.
Intrigue of Gang Rivalries
Following the murder, social media discussions indicated that the attack may have stemmed from tensions within the Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar faction. Parry, who previously had connections with Brar, is believed to have shifted his loyalty amid internal conflicts. Earlier in the year, Brar's public split with the Bishnoi group added more strain to the situation. Analysts suggest this assassination could be a continuation of a territorial skirmish, sending warnings to supporters of opposing gangs about potential reprisals.
Law Enforcement's Reaction
The Chandigarh Police promptly established checkpoints at the borders with Mohali and Panchkula, initiating extensive searches. Teams from the Crime Branch and Operations Cell are currently reviewing CCTV footage while tracing the escape route of the Hyundai Creta, suspected to have used a forged license plate. Investigators are exploring all potential factors, from gang rivalries to personal vendettas.
