Girija Oak Addresses Concerns Over AI-Morphed Images

Girija Oak Addresses Concerns Over AI-Morphed Images

Post by : Meena Ariff

Marathi actress Girija Oak Godbole, who recently made headlines for her stunning appearance in a blue saree, has spoken out about the troubling phenomenon of AI-morphed images and videos surfacing online. In a candid Instagram post, she conveyed her thoughts in Hindi, English, and Marathi, addressing both her newfound attention and the darker implications of viral fame.

While she appreciates the recognition for her craft, Girija is deeply concerned about how such digital content might affect her 12-year-old son as he grows older. “I have a son who is 12. He isn’t on social media yet, but inevitably he will be. These images may be rampant today, but they are destined to linger on the internet forever,” she expressed.

Girija elaborated on her sudden rise to fame and the mixed reactions accompanying it. “Many friends and family have been sharing posts and memes with me. While some are incredibly funny and creative, others are AI-generated images that cross the line. They objectify and sexualize me, which I find unsettling,” she mentioned.

Recognizing the complexities of our digital landscape, she remarked, “Being a social media user myself, I understand how trends operate. Whenever something catches fire, these kinds of images tend to emerge. The engagement keeps the cycle going, but it disturbs me that there seem to be no constraints—everything appears permissible.”

Girija concluded with a strong message aimed at creators and consumers of inappropriate content, stating, “If you utilize AI to alter images of any individual, please pause and reconsider. And if you indulge in such content without creating it, you're also contributing to the issue. I urge you to think twice.”

Despite these challenges, Girija mentioned that she’s relishing the attention, hoping it leads to greater viewership of her projects. “I am enjoying this sudden spotlight, and if it results in more people watching my films and performances, I couldn’t ask for more. I appreciate your support and promise to deliver exceptional work. See you in the cinemas. Thank you,” she added.

Girija Oak Godbole is set to appear in the upcoming web series Therapy Sherapy alongside Gulshan Devaiah, which delves into the intricacies of human emotions and relationships; the release date is still pending.
