Napoli continued their strong Serie A campaign with a commanding 2-0 victory over Cremonese on Sunday, thanks to a brilliant double from Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund. The win keeps Napoli firmly in the race for the league title, just one point behind leaders AC Milan.
AC Milan had earlier secured a comfortable 3-0 win against Hellas Verona to stay at the top with 35 points. Napoli, on 34 points, remain hot on their heels, while Inter Milan, who currently sit third with 33 points, have a chance to overtake both if they defeat Atalanta later on Sunday.
Napoli came into the match fresh from their recent Italian Super Cup success, where they defeated Bologna 2-0. Despite their recent celebrations, Napoli showed no signs of fatigue or complacency.
The game’s opening goal arrived early in the 13th minute when Hojlund was quickest to react to a deflected shot that bounced into his path. He calmly slotted the ball in from close range, giving Napoli an early lead.
As the first half neared its end, Hojlund doubled his tally during stoppage time by capitalizing on a loose ball near the back post, finishing with precision to put the game beyond doubt.
In the second half, Napoli continued to create several chances, but despite their efforts, Hojlund and the team could not add to their two-goal advantage.
Since joining Napoli earlier this season, the 22-year-old striker has impressed with six goals and two assists in 12 Serie A appearances. When asked about his current form, Hojlund credited playing alongside talented teammates for his success.
Napoli’s manager Antonio Conte praised Hojlund’s rapid progress, highlighting his young age and potential. “He is a very young player with lots of room to grow. He is becoming dominant in his position and well connected with the team,” Conte said. “In my system, the striker plays a crucial role, and Rasmus has a huge margin to improve further.”
With this win, Napoli keep the pressure on AC Milan and maintain their hopes of challenging for the Serie A crown as the season progresses.
