In a major safety move, Honda Motor is recalling 406,290 vehicles in the United States after identifying a manufacturing flaw that could cause aluminum alloy wheels to detach while driving. The issue has raised safety concerns for owners of affected cars.
The recall affects certain 2016-2021 Honda Civic models equipped with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels sold as accessories. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed that the defect originates from the wheel hub assembly, which may not maintain a secure fit under normal driving conditions.
Dealers across the country will perform inspections on the wheels and replace both the hubs and wheels where necessary. All repairs will be carried out free of charge, aiming to prevent any potential accidents or injuries. Vehicle owners are encouraged to contact their local Honda dealership promptly to schedule an inspection.
The recall highlights the importance of routine vehicle maintenance and the growing scrutiny of aftermarket or accessory components, even from leading manufacturers. While Honda has not reported widespread incidents, the precautionary recall underscores the brand’s commitment to safety.
For owners, staying informed and acting quickly is key. Ensuring that wheels and hubs are properly fitted can prevent dangerous situations on the road.
