Johannesburg, South Africa – During the 20th G20 Summit in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi articulated India’s vision through a series of groundbreaking initiatives aimed at addressing critical global issues such as drug trafficking, health crises, and skill enhancement in Africa.
In his address to the plenary session centered on inclusive and sustainable growth, Modi underscored the pressing need to confront the escalating menace of drug-related terrorism. “To combat the drug trafficking challenge, particularly concerning substances like fentanyl, India puts forth a G20 Initiative on Countering the Drug–Terror Nexus. We must dismantle the destructive drug-terror economy,” he stated. This initiative seeks to unify financial, governance, and security frameworks to break down the networks interlinking drugs and terrorism.
In terms of global health advancements, Modi proposed establishing a G20 Global Healthcare Response Team. This initiative is designed to unite medical professionals from G20 countries for swift deployment during health crises or natural disasters. “Our strength lies in our unity when responding to health emergencies and natural calamities,” Modi remarked, emphasizing the necessity for global collaboration.
He highlighted the significance of Africa’s development as vital to worldwide progression. India aims to initiate a G20-Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative, targeting the training of one million certified trainers throughout Africa in the next decade. “India has consistently shown its support for Africa. With Africa now a permanent G20 member, we must deepen our investment in their skillsets,” Modi elaborated.
Modi also introduced plans for a G20 Global Traditional Knowledge Repository, tasked with compiling and disseminating traditional knowledge from G20 nations to enhance global health and wellbeing. “India carries a rich legacy in this domain, and this repository will preserve our shared wisdom,” he stated.
These proposals epitomize India’s strategic initiative to tackle urgent global challenges while reinforcing partnerships across nations. The focus on drug issues, health, and educational skills showcases a blend of actionable plans and forward-thinking vision, affirming India’s dynamic role in shaping the G20 agenda.
