India is getting ready for a big population survey called the Census. The government will officially announce the start of this work today. This survey happens every ten years, but the last one was in 2011 because the 2021 Census was delayed by COVID-19.
The Census will happen in two parts. First, workers will visit homes to collect information about the house, things people own, and what facilities they have. Next, they will ask questions about the people living there, like age, job, education, and family details. For the first time, people will also be asked about their caste.
This time, the Census will use mobile apps and digital tools. People can even fill out their details online if they want. Around 34 lakh (3.4 million) people will help with this huge task. The main date for the Census is March 1, 2027, but in snowy places like Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, it will be done by October 2026.
The government says all information will be kept very safe. Special rules will protect the data when it is collected and stored.
This is a big event for India, as it will help the government plan for the future. The announcement and preparations are happening now, so this news is about an upcoming event.
