Indonesia is stepping up health precautions following a surge in Measles cases across multiple regions. The government has issued an official advisory urging healthcare workers and medical facilities to strengthen vigilance and infection control measures.
According to health authorities, dozens of outbreaks have been reported across several provinces in early 2026, affecting thousands before declining in recent weeks. Despite the drop, officials warn that the risk remains high, particularly for healthcare workers who are in close contact with infected patients.
The Ministry of Health has launched response measures including outbreak response immunization (ORI) and catch-up vaccination campaigns targeting young children. These efforts focus on improving coverage of the Measles-Rubella vaccine, which is critical in preventing the spread of the disease.
Hospitals and health facilities have been instructed to enhance early screening, prepare isolation wards, and ensure adequate supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE). Strict adherence to infection prevention protocols and timely reporting of suspected cases within 24 hours have also been mandated.
Health experts emphasize that measles remains a highly contagious disease, capable of spreading rapidly in communities with low immunization coverage. The government’s latest measures aim to contain further outbreaks, protect healthcare workers, and strengthen overall public health preparedness.
