Indonesia’s culinary scene has gained major international recognition after two restaurants were featured in the prestigious Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026 list, announced in Hong Kong. The achievement highlights the country’s growing influence in global gastronomy and its ability to compete with top culinary destinations across Asia.
The restaurants included are August, ranked 42nd, and Locavore NXT, ranked 44th. Both establishments improved their positions compared to 2025, signaling steady progress in Indonesia’s fine dining sector. August, led by Hans Christian, is known for its modern take on Indonesian flavors combined with refined presentation and an intimate dining experience in Jakarta’s business district.
Adding to the recognition, Indonesian pastry chef Ardika Dwitama received the Asia’s Best Pastry Chef Award 2026. His work has been widely praised for creativity and technical excellence, further strengthening Indonesia’s position on the global culinary map.
Meanwhile, Locavore NXT in Bali continues to gain attention for its innovative and sustainable approach to cuisine. The restaurant focuses on hyper-local ingredients, seasonal menus, and environmentally conscious practices, offering a unique dining experience that reflects modern culinary values.
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that such achievements play a crucial role in promoting Indonesia as a world-class gastronomic destination. The government is increasingly emphasizing culinary tourism through initiatives like Wonderful Indonesia, aiming to attract international visitors by showcasing the nation’s rich food culture, creativity, and sustainability-driven dining experiences.
The recognition at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026 underscores Indonesia’s rising reputation in global gastronomy, driven by innovation, local identity, and a strong commitment to quality.
