England have announced their white-ball squads for the November 2026 tour of Australia, with all-rounder Jacob Bethell returning after recovering from a knee injury. The selection also includes several notable changes as England continue preparations for the next ICC ODI World Cup, scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2027. Bethell has been named in both the one-day international and Twenty20 squads after missing action because of the injury he sustained during England’s ODI series against India in July. His return gives England another option with both bat and ball as the team prepares for a challenging overseas assignment. The squad announcement also features the return of fast bowler Jofra Archer to the ODI setup and maiden senior call-ups for young wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew and uncapped bowler Eddie Jack in the T20 team. England are using the Australia tour to assess their available players, build combinations and prepare for the demands of international white-ball cricket ahead of next year’s global tournament.
Bethell’s return is one of the main talking points in England’s selection. The all-rounder suffered a knee injury during England’s ODI series victory over India in July and has since been working towards a return to international action. His inclusion in both squads indicates that England are considering him for the two shorter formats as they prepare for the Australia series. Having a player who can contribute with both bat and ball gives the team additional flexibility when selecting its playing XI. Bethell’s role and workload during the tour will depend on his fitness, match readiness and the team management’s plans. The upcoming matches will provide an opportunity for England to assess his progress against Australia, one of their major rivals in international cricket.
Fast bowler Jofra Archer has also returned to the ODI squad after being rested for England’s tri-series campaign in Pakistan in October. His selection adds pace to England’s bowling options for the three-match ODI series in Australia. Archer is joined by Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker and Josh Tongue among the fast bowlers named for the tour. However, England will manage the workload of their quick bowlers carefully. Archer, Atkinson, Baker and Tongue are scheduled to leave the tour after the ODI series as the team prepares for its Test tour of South Africa in December. Managing workloads is an important consideration for fast bowlers, particularly when teams have several international assignments scheduled close together. England will need to balance the demands of the Australia series with the longer-format cricket that follows.
England’s T20 squad includes two players who have earned their first senior international call-ups: wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew and uncapped bowler Eddie Jack. Rew, aged 18, is among the youngest players named in the squad. His inclusion brings a new face into England’s T20 setup and offers him an opportunity to experience the international environment. Jack has also been selected for the T20 matches. His call-up gives England another bowling option as selectors assess their resources ahead of future competitions. A first senior call-up does not automatically guarantee a place in the playing XI. The players will need to compete for opportunities, and their involvement will depend on selection decisions and the team’s requirements during the tour. Nevertheless, the selections underline England’s willingness to bring emerging players into the senior setup while continuing to rely on experienced international performers.

Wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt is another important addition to England’s T20 squad. He returns after a quad injury kept him out of the team’s 3-0 T20 series sweep against Sri Lanka in September. Salt’s return provides England with another established batting option for the shortest format. His availability also gives the selectors greater flexibility when deciding the team’s batting order and wicketkeeping arrangements. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler remains unavailable as he begins rehabilitation following hamstring surgery. Fast bowler Saqib Mahmood has also missed selection because of a knee injury. These absences mean England will have to work with the players available while managing fitness concerns during a busy international schedule.
Harry Brook will captain England in the ODI series. The squad combines established international players with younger options as the team continues to prepare for the 2027 World Cup. Harry Brook (captain), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jordan Cox, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root and Josh Tongue. The squad includes a mix of batting, all-round and bowling options. Experienced players such as Joe Root and Adil Rashid are joined by younger selections, while Brook will lead the side during the tour. The three ODI matches will give England an opportunity to assess player combinations and examine how their squad handles Australian conditions.
Harry Brook will also captain England’s T20 team. The squad features returning players, established performers and newcomers selected for the shortest format. Harry Brook (captain), Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, James Coles, Jordan Cox, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Aneurin Donald, Eddie Jack, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Thomas Rew, Phil Salt and Luke Wood. The T20 group offers England several options across the batting order and bowling department. Bethell and Salt return to the setup, while Rew and Jack have opportunities to make their mark at senior international level. England’s final combinations will depend on player availability, fitness and conditions during the series.
The November tour is an important stage in England’s preparations for the England cricket team’s next major white-ball challenge, the 2027 ODI World Cup.n The tournament will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. England’s selectors will want to build a squad capable of adapting to different match situations and handling the pressures of international competition. Playing in Australia will offer a demanding test for England’s batters and bowlers. The tour can help the team assess its depth, test different combinations and identify areas that may need attention before the World Cup. The ODI and T20 squads also show that England are balancing immediate international commitments with longer-term planning. The return of injured players, selection of new faces and management of fast-bowling workloads will all be important factors during the tour.
Several key questions will shape interest in the series. Bethell’s return will be closely watched as he works his way back into international cricket after injury. Archer’s presence in the ODI squad will strengthen England’s pace options, while Rew and Jack will have the chance to gain experience in the senior setup. Salt’s return will also be significant for the T20 side after his absence against Sri Lanka. At the same time, England must manage the fitness of players who are expected to move on to other international commitments.
