Miraz Endorses Mosaddek's Comeback as Bangladesh Prepares for ODI Series

Miraz Endorses Mosaddek's Comeback as Bangladesh Prepares for ODI Series

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Bangladesh's ODI captain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, has shown unwavering support for Mosaddek Hossain's reintegration into the national squad, asserting that the seasoned all-rounder has claimed his spot through stellar domestic performances.

After a four-year hiatus, Mosaddek is back in Bangladesh's ODI lineup, included in the 15-member team for the first two matches against Australia. The 30-year-old has been outstanding in domestic leagues, amassing 310 runs from six outings with an average of 77.50 and a strike rate of 129.17, including a century and two fifties. He has also made valuable contributions with the ball, securing 12 wickets across seven games.

As the series approaches, Miraz remarked that Mosaddek's selection is truly warranted.

"His performance in domestic cricket over the years has been nothing short of impressive, and he's currently in remarkable form. This is an ideal moment for him to rejoin the national team," Miraz stated. He emphasized that if Mosaddek fulfills his designated role, it could greatly enhance the team's capabilities.

No Rivalry Between Layers

Miraz dismissed claims of rivalry between himself and Mosaddek, emphasizing their long history as teammates, having participated together in the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

He clarified that their respective roles do not overlap, characterizing Mosaddek as primarily a batting all-rounder while considering himself a bowling all-rounder. Miraz expressed confidence that Mosaddek's success would positively impact both himself and the wider team.

Importance of an Extra Bowling Option

Miraz also underlined the significance of Mosaddek’s off-spin bowling. He indicated that an additional bowling option offers the team enhanced adaptability and equilibrium during ODI matches.

He reasoned that having a sixth bowling option could be pivotal if one of the primary bowlers underperforms. Miraz remarked that Mosaddek's exemplary bowling capabilities demonstrated in domestic cricket could greatly influence match outcomes if he bowls in effective areas.

Room for Growth for Rishad Hossain

Shifting to leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, Miraz noted his rising confidence stemming from performances in both domestic and franchise cricket, including a notable run in the Big Bash League, where he ranked among leading wicket-taking spinners.

However, Miraz acknowledged that Rishad still has progress to make concerning ODI cricket. He pointed out that differing skills and strategies are necessary for T20 and ODI formats. While there is faith in Rishad's abilities, Miraz emphasized that he must keep honing skills such as managing run rates and taking wickets under various match contexts.

Miraz reiterated that consistent opportunities and ongoing development could position Rishad as a pivotal bowler for Bangladesh moving forward.

Bangladesh Remains Focused Against Weakened Australia

Bangladesh will kick off their three-match ODI series against Australia at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.

The Australian squad will lack several key players, including World Cup-winning bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, along with captain Mitchell Marsh due to an ankle issue and Travis Head on personal leave. Josh Inglis will captain the Australian team.

Despite Australia’s notable absences, Miraz affirmed that Bangladesh will not underestimate their opponents. He acknowledged Australia as a formidable team, emphasizing Bangladesh’s commitment to playing high-caliber cricket and securing victories.

The captain expressed optimism, citing the Bangladesh squad's confidence stemming from strong domestic displays and successful recent series against the West Indies, Pakistan, and New Zealand.

Miraz views the upcoming series as a significant opportunity for Bangladesh, particularly as they face Australia on home soil after many years, aiming to leverage home conditions for robust performances throughout the series.
