On Sunday evening, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir detected unusual drone activity along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch districts. Officials said the drones entered Indian territory from Pakistan for a brief period before retreating.
In Rajouri, troops stationed in the Nowshera sector responded quickly after spotting a drone hovering over Gania-Kalsian village around 6:35 pm. They opened fire using medium and light machine guns to deter the intruder. Shortly after, another drone with blinking lights was seen over Khabbar village in Teryath, moving from Dharmsal in Kalakote towards Bharakh, prompting heightened surveillance in the area.
In Samba district, a drone hovered above Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector for several minutes at 7:15 pm, while in Poonch, another drone moved from Tain towards Topa in the Mankote sector at around 6:25 pm. Security forces immediately launched search operations on the ground to locate and neutralize any potential threat.
This comes days after security personnel recovered an arms consignment allegedly delivered by a Pakistan-origin drone in Paloora village near the IB in Samba on Friday night. The recovered items included two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition, and a grenade. Officials said these incidents underline the continuing attempts of cross-border infiltration using unmanned aerial devices.
Authorities have urged local residents near border areas to remain vigilant and report any suspicious aerial activity. Troops continue to maintain high alert along all forward sectors, keeping a close watch on drone movements and conducting counter-surveillance operations to prevent any security breach.
