BN also recorded stronger early advantages in several other constituencies. Unofficial counts showed the coalition ahead in Tenggaroh, Bekok, Paloh and Mahkota. BN's command centre claimed the coalition was leading in 45 of Johor's 56 state constituencies as of shortly after 7 pm, although the figures remained unofficial.
Pakatan Harapan was leading in several constituencies as counting progressed. In Perling, PH had 3,260 votes compared with BN's 2,635, while in Skudai, PH was reported ahead with 1,950 votes against BN's 1,080.
Earlier unofficial counts showed the two major coalitions trading leads across multiple seats. PH was reported ahead in areas including Stulang, Jementah, Pekan Nanas, Johor Jaya and Senai, while BN led in several other constituencies.
More than 1.8 million voters, representing 67.44 per cent of the electorate, had cast their ballots by 5 pm. Johor has about 2.6 million ordinary voters, while the Election Commission had targeted a turnout of 70 per cent.
Ballot boxes from 4,889 voting streams were transported to tallying centres after polling ended. The Election Commission was expected to announce the official results as counting continued, with full results anticipated later in the night.
