The government of Vietnam has officially approved a major long term development plan for the coastal province of Khanh Hoa. The decision outlines a strategic vision to transform the region into a modern and globally connected urban center by 2050, with a long term outlook extending to 2075.
The plan was signed by Pham Gia Tuc and sets the foundation for comprehensive urban and economic development. It covers a large land area of over 8,700 square kilometers along with a significant marine zone extending several nautical miles from the coast.
According to the plan, the development will be carried out in phases. The short term phase will focus on progress up to 2030 and 2040, while the long term phase aims to achieve major transformation by 2050. The extended vision to 2075 reflects Vietnam’s long range planning strategy.
The primary goal is to develop Khanh Hoa into a Class I urban area that is modern, smart, green, and sustainable. The city is expected to become an important growth center for the country and a competitive coastal hub with strong international connections.
Khanh Hoa is planned to serve as a major center for multiple sectors, including marine economy, high technology industries, logistics, clean energy, and innovation. It will also act as a key link connecting regional and international economic corridors.
Tourism will play a significant role in the development strategy. The region is expected to become a leading destination for international marine tourism, offering services such as resorts, conferences, and large scale events that attract global visitors.
The plan also emphasizes balanced development between urban areas and natural ecosystems. Authorities aim to protect the environment, preserve coastal landscapes, and ensure that growth is aligned with climate change adaptation measures.
Population growth is expected to increase steadily as development progresses. The urban population is projected to reach nearly 2.8 million by 2030, around 3.8 million by 2040, and over 5 million by 2050, reflecting strong economic expansion.
In addition to economic development, the plan highlights the strategic importance of Khanh Hoa in national defense and security. Its coastal location plays a key role in protecting maritime sovereignty while supporting stable social and economic conditions.
Overall, the master plan represents a major step in Vietnam’s effort to strengthen its coastal economy and position Khanh Hoa as both a regional powerhouse and an international maritime gateway in the future.
