Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, held an important bilateral meeting with Kurban Hakimzoda, Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan, during his working visit to Tajikistan. The discussions took place in Dushanbe and focused on strengthening agricultural cooperation and expanding regional partnership between the two neighboring countries.
The meeting reflected the growing diplomatic engagement between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan following the state visits conducted by the presidents of both countries in 2025. Officials reviewed the progress achieved after the first session of the Intergovernmental Council recently held between the two nations and emphasized the importance of implementing previously signed agreements and cooperation protocols.
A major topic during the discussions was the proposed development of a joint “Roadmap” designed to coordinate the implementation of bilateral agricultural agreements. According to officials, the roadmap will help both governments organize practical cooperation more efficiently by identifying key activities, deadlines, and responsible institutions involved in the process.
The two sides also explored opportunities for closer collaboration in several important agricultural sectors, including veterinary services, phytosanitary regulation, livestock development, fisheries, seed production, and agricultural research. Both countries acknowledged the importance of sharing technical knowledge and modern farming practices to improve productivity and food security in the region.
Officials further highlighted the need to strengthen scientific and technical cooperation between agricultural institutions and research organizations in both countries. The exchange of expertise, technology, and professional training programs is expected to support long-term agricultural modernization and sustainable rural development.
During the talks, representatives from both governments agreed to encourage more direct communication and coordination between relevant ministries and agencies. They believe that stronger institutional cooperation will help resolve common agricultural challenges while creating new opportunities for trade and economic growth in Central Asia.
The meeting also demonstrated the improving political and economic relationship between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan after years of regional tensions and border-related concerns. Analysts view the increasing focus on agriculture and resource management as a positive step toward building long-term stability and cooperation between the neighboring nations.
At the conclusion of the discussions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and advancing practical cooperation projects in the agricultural sector. Officials stated that continued dialogue and joint planning would remain essential for achieving sustainable regional development and strengthening food security initiatives across both countries.
