A tragic road accident in Kuala Lumpur has claimed the life of a young Bangladeshi man in what is believed to be a case of drunk driving. The incident occurred on the Maju Expressway (MEX) shortly after the victims had left the airport, turning what should have been a routine journey into a devastating event.
The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Muzahid Millad. He was traveling in an e-hailing vehicle along with his wife when their car was suddenly struck by another vehicle. Due to the severity of the impact, he suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police reports, the accident involved a Perodua Alza, which was operating as an e-hailing vehicle, and a Ford Fiesta. Initial investigations suggest that the Ford Fiesta, driven by a 31-year-old military officer, may have entered the opposite lane before colliding head-on with the other vehicle.
Authorities have taken the officer into custody, and he has been remanded for five days to assist with the investigation. The remand was approved by the court following a police request under relevant legal provisions, as the case is being treated seriously due to the fatal outcome.
A breathalyser test conducted on the driver showed that his blood alcohol level was above the permitted legal limit. However, further tests confirmed that no drugs were found in his system, indicating that alcohol was the primary concern in the incident.
The crash left several others injured. The victim’s wife, a 20-year-old Bangladeshi woman, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. The e-hailing driver also suffered head injuries, while the military officer and a female passenger traveling with him were also hurt in the collision.
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, providing medical assistance and clearing the damaged vehicles from the highway. The accident caused temporary traffic disruption and raised concerns among commuters about safety on major roads.
This incident has once again brought attention to the dangers of drunk driving and reckless behavior on highways. Road safety experts have stressed the importance of stricter enforcement of traffic laws and increased awareness among drivers to prevent such tragedies.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine all the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings, as the case highlights the need for accountability and stronger road safety measures.
