Thunderstorm Alert Issued Across Most Parts of Malaysia

Thunderstorm Alert Issued Across Most Parts of Malaysia

Post by : Shakul

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning covering large parts of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territories. The advisory warns residents to prepare for heavy rainfall, strong winds and lightning activity as unstable weather conditions continue across the country.

Warning Remains Active Until Night

According to MetMalaysia, the weather alert was issued at 5:15 PM and remains valid until 9:00 PM. Authorities stated that thunderstorms could develop rapidly and bring intense rainfall capable of causing localized flooding and traffic disruptions in affected regions.

Multiple States Under Alert

Several districts in Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Johor have been placed under the warning zone. Areas including Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Hulu Langat and Kuala Lumpur are among the locations expected to experience adverse weather conditions.

East Malaysia Also Faces Storm Risk

In East Malaysia, parts of Sarawak including Miri and Limbang have been affected by the warning. Sabah districts such as Ranau, Tawau, Kunak, Lahad Datu, Kuala Penyu and Kota Marudu are also expected to experience thunderstorms and strong winds during the warning period. Labuan has also been included in the advisory.

Heavy Rainfall Could Impact Daily Activities

Meteorologists noted that thunderstorm warnings are issued when rainfall intensity is expected to exceed 20 millimetres per hour. Such conditions can reduce visibility, create hazardous road conditions and increase the risk of flash floods in low-lying areas.

Residents Urged to Remain Vigilant

Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during storm periods and remain alert to rapidly changing weather conditions. Motorists have also been encouraged to drive carefully as heavy rain and strong winds may affect road safety.

Public Asked to Follow Official Updates

MetMalaysia continues to monitor the weather situation and has urged the public to stay informed through official channels. Weather advisories may be updated as conditions evolve throughout the evening, with authorities emphasizing the importance of following safety instructions during severe weather events.
