The eagerly anticipated Mastiii 4, starring Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani, and Riteish Deshmukh, debuted in theatres on November 21 to a lukewarm reception across most areas. Marking the return of a beloved Bollywood adult-comedy series, the film saw weak advance ticket sales, reflecting similar trends for its rival film, 120 Bahadur, which also faced challenges with pre-release excitement.
The Masti franchise's history has shown a blend of successes and failures. The original film, Masti (2004), and its sequel Grand Masti (2013) gained significant popularity, solidifying a dedicated audience. However, Great Grand Masti fell short of its predecessors' accomplishments, leaving fans uncertain about the acceptance of a new entry. Nevertheless, the creators of Mastiii 4 held hope that the film's beloved cast and signature humor would rekindle interest in the franchise.
On its opening day, Mastiii 4 managed to collect approximately ₹2.50 crore, slightly surpassing 120 Bahadur, which pulled in ₹2.35 crore. Despite claiming a higher figure, the results did not meet the anticipated threshold for a film from such a well-known franchise. Industry analysts suggest that the movie's weekend performance will rely heavily on audience turnout and word-of-mouth feedback.
Meanwhile, De De Pyaar De 2 remains steady in its second week, showcasing impressive resilience. Featuring stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and R Madhavan, the film secured ₹2.25 crore on Friday. This consistency signifies robust audience retention, rivaling the opening-day collections of both new releases.
As numerous films vie for viewer attention, the box office landscape is expected to clarify over the weekend. For Mastiii 4, the critical question remains whether it can leverage its brand legacy and nostalgia for a stronger financial performance ahead.
