Nagpur Hotelier Wife Died in Italy Road Accident, Daughter Critical

Nagpur Hotelier Wife Died in Italy Road Accident, Daughter Critical

Post by : Rameen Ariff

A family vacation in Europe turned into a tragedy for a Nagpur-based family after a road accident in Italy claimed the lives of hotelier Javed Akhtar, 55, and his wife, Nadira Gulshan, 47. The couple was traveling with their three children when the crash occurred on the Aurelia Highway near Grosseto on Thursday.

Reports confirm that the family was in a nine-seater minibus that collided with a van and a truck. The minibus driver and the Nagpur couple died on the spot. Their daughter, 21-year-old Arzoo, suffered severe head injuries and is admitted to Lee Scott Hospital in Siena in critical condition. Their other children, Shifa and Jazel, are being treated in hospitals in Florence and Grosseto.

Local reports suggest that emergency help was delayed. After regaining consciousness, Jazel managed to call the helpline. Firefighters pulled the injured out of the wrecked vehicles, and helicopters were used to airlift them to hospitals due to the severity of the injuries.

The Indian Embassy in Italy has confirmed the deaths of the Nagpur couple and expressed deep condolences to the family. In its statement, the embassy assured that it is in touch with both the family in India and the Italian authorities, providing all possible assistance for the treatment and support of the surviving children.

Javed Akhtar was a well-known hotelier from Nagpur and owner of Gulshan Plaza Hotel near the Sitabuldi flyover. The family had started their Europe tour from France on September 22 before heading to Italy. The news of their tragic deaths has left the business and hospitality community in Nagpur in shock.

The accident highlights the risks of road travel abroad and has left the Akhtar family devastated, with loved ones mourning the loss of a respected businessman and his wife while praying for the recovery of their children.
