UAE's Olaroiu Blames Red Card for Setback Against Jordan

UAE's Olaroiu Blames Red Card for Setback Against Jordan

Post by : Maya Rahman

UAE's head coach Cosmin Olaroiu expressed his frustration following a 2-1 defeat to Jordan in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025. The match, held at Al Bayt Stadium and part of Group C, presented serious challenges for the UAE after a pivotal moment early on.

In the post-match conference, Olaroiu stated the game started with both teams trying to establish a rhythm. However, everything changed when a penalty was awarded to Jordan, resulting in the expulsion of a UAE player. This instant shift in dynamics, according to the coach, created immense challenges for his squad.

While admitting the penalty decision was justified, Olaroiu argued that the red card was overly severe. He labeled the dismissal as an unwarranted penalty that left the UAE outnumbered, compelling them to adopt a more defensive strategy, which stifled their attacking efforts against Jordan.

Despite his reservations regarding the referee’s decisions, Olaroiu congratulated Jordan on their well-deserved victory. He appreciated their capacity to capitalize on the player advantage and for their solid organisation throughout the game. Once Jordan gained confidence from the penalty, they successfully managed crucial segments of the match.

The UAE coach highlighted that his players demonstrated commendable effort, even with a player down. He praised their relentless spirit and commitment, noting their persistence to create scoring opportunities.

Looking ahead, Olaroiu conveyed confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back. He appealed to the players to maintain their focus and prepare for future matches, noting that this is merely the initial challenge of the group stage. Olaroiu encouraged them to push forward as he believes victory is still achievable.

He remarked that while the defeat was disappointing, it should fuel the team to improve. The coach underlined the necessity of learning from mistakes and maintaining mental strength for the next match. He also urged fans to keep supporting the team, promising that the UAE will return rejuvenated.

Looking ahead to their next match, the UAE aims to secure crucial points in the competition. With the group stage still wide open, Olaroiu maintains optimism that his team can progress in the FIFA Arab Cup.

Throughout his address, Olaroiu reflected on key match moments, the effect of the red card, and the necessity to move forward. As the tournament progresses, UAE aims to regain their momentum and display improved control, discipline, and confidence in future encounters.
