In a significant advancement, OpenAI has introduced its new AI models, GPT-5.2 Pro and GPT-5.2 Thinking, elevating the standards of mathematical and scientific reasoning. These innovations are deemed essential for reliability in technical fields, representing another stride towards the quest for artificial general intelligence (AGI)—machines capable of human-like thinking or exceeding human reasoning.
This launch arrives in the midst of intensified competition with Google, as its Gemini 3 Pro has recently surpassed earlier iterations of ChatGPT in complex reasoning and multimodal functions. Acknowledging this challenge, OpenAI remains hopeful. CEO Sam Altman emphasized that significant investments in computational resources are vital for sustained growth and innovation, even as the company struggles with profitability.
Initial assessments indicate that GPT-5.2 showcases a notable enhancement over its predecessors, providing more accurate and grounded responses, although Google's AI still excels in certain benchmarks. Fidji Simo, OpenAI's chief of applications, hinted at an upcoming "ChatGPT adult mode," anticipated for launch next year, which will include refined age verification features.
Despite facing criticism, including lawsuits claiming unsafe interactions with young users, OpenAI has raised alerts regarding cybersecurity threats linked to its sophisticated models. Nevertheless, the company continues to charge ahead, striving to retain its leadership in AI advancements amid the ongoing race against Google.
