On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon citizens, institutions, and policymakers to strengthen their commitment toward environmental conservation and sustainable development. The Prime Minister emphasized that protecting nature remains essential for ensuring a healthier and more prosperous future for coming generations.
Highlighting India's environmental journey over the last decade, Prime Minister Modi said the country has achieved significant progress in expanding green cover, protecting biodiversity, and improving ecological conservation efforts. He noted that several wildlife species have recorded population growth due to focused conservation programs and better habitat management.
The Prime Minister praised the collective efforts of citizens, local communities, scientists, environmental organizations, and government agencies in driving positive environmental change. According to him, India's achievements demonstrate how public participation, scientific innovation, and effective policymaking can work together to create lasting environmental benefits.
World Environment Day is observed every year on June 5 to raise awareness about environmental challenges and encourage action to protect natural resources. Across India, various awareness campaigns, plantation drives, educational programs, and community initiatives were organized to mark the occasion and promote sustainable living practices.
Prime Minister Modi stressed that economic development and environmental protection must move forward together. He reiterated the government's commitment to balancing growth with sustainability by investing in renewable energy, green infrastructure, clean technology, and climate-resilient development strategies.
Environmental experts believe India’s growing focus on renewable energy, forest conservation, wildlife protection, and sustainable resource management has strengthened the country's position in global climate and environmental discussions. These initiatives are expected to play an important role in achieving long-term sustainability goals.
As the world faces increasing challenges related to climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss, the Prime Minister urged everyone to contribute through responsible consumption, conservation efforts, and environmentally conscious lifestyles. He stated that collective action remains the most effective path toward building a greener and more sustainable future for all.
