A series of major cooperation agreements were signed between Oman and Botswana at Al Baraka Palace in Muscat. The signing ceremony was attended by Haitham bin Tariq and Botswana’s President Duma Gideon Boko during an official visit.
The agreements focus on key sectors including mineral exploration, petroleum storage infrastructure, and renewable energy. These initiatives aim to strengthen economic ties and open new opportunities for investment between the two nations.
One of the major highlights is a partnership between OQ and Botswana Oil. The collaboration will assess fuel supply systems, storage infrastructure, and long-term energy security solutions in Botswana.
The two companies will explore creating an integrated fuel supply platform, combining import systems, coastal storage, and inland reserves. This model is expected to improve supply chain efficiency and ensure consistent fuel availability in the region.
Another key agreement includes a large-scale solar energy project led by O-Green, aiming to develop a 500 MW photovoltaic power plant in Maun, Botswana. The project will also include advanced battery storage systems to ensure stable energy supply.
Officials stated that this renewable energy initiative is one of the largest in Botswana’s history and will significantly contribute to the country’s goal of achieving 50% electricity from sustainable sources by 2030. It is also expected to double the country’s current power generation capacity.
In addition, a mining cooperation agreement was signed to enhance exploration and development of mineral resources. The partnership will involve knowledge sharing, technical collaboration, and joint investment in strategic minerals, supporting long-term economic growth.
