Portugal Advances to U-17 World Cup Final After Overcoming Brazil

Post by : Maya Rahman

On Monday, Portugal made history by defeating Brazil to secure a place in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 final for the first time. The nail-biting match concluded with a 0-0 draw in regular time, but Portugal triumphed 6–5 in the shootout. Coach Bino Macaes hailed it as one of their finest performances throughout the tournament, commending his players for their dedication and focus during the match.

Macaes revealed that the team entered the tournament with the awareness that the journey would be challenging. Each match demanded utmost concentration, and the players showed unwavering determination from the outset. Despite facing numerous hurdles during both the group stages and knockout rounds, the team continuously pushed forward with belief and unity.

Facing Brazil, one of the powerhouses in youth football, was undoubtedly a significant challenge. Macaes referred to Brazil as a formidable and dangerous rival, capable of generating scoring opportunities at any moment. Consequently, Portugal adopted a realistic game strategy, prioritizing organization and seizing any chances that presented themselves. Although Brazil exerted intense pressure, Portugal remained composed and disciplined until the very end.

Macaes remarked that although no goals were scored during the 90 minutes, the players demonstrated exceptional spirit and bravery throughout the penalty shootout. Under immense pressure, the Portuguese squad maintained their poise, ultimately achieving a memorable victory. He expressed immense pride in how the team managed the moment, especially since reaching the final was a longstanding dream since their arrival in Qatar.

This milestone holds significant importance for Portuguese football, particularly at the youth level. Macaes aspires to be the first coach to lead Portugal to a U-17 World Cup title, emphasizing that the players' success stems from extensive preparation, discipline, and unwavering belief. The win against Brazil symbolizes a major triumph not just for the players but for the entire national program.

He noted that the players have exhibited maturity beyond their years, particularly in managing pressure during a major international tournament. Their teamwork and concentration have evolved throughout the competition, culminating in their reaching the final.

With the final set for Thursday, Macaes stated that the team would focus entirely on their preparation for the decisive match. He believes that the title is “just one step away,” stressing the importance of ensuring the players recover well, remain mentally robust, and continue displaying the confidence showcased thus far.

He also expressed gratitude towards supporters and everyone who has assisted the team during the tournament. This achievement is attributed to collective effort, and the players are driven to give their all in the final to clinch the FIFA U-17 World Cup trophy.

As the pivotal match approaches, Portugal stands on the brink of claiming their first title. Their journey has been riddled with challenges, but their conviction, strategy, and togetherness have guided them to the threshold of a historic win.
