Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, will be present at the much-anticipated 'GOAT India Tour' featuring football legend Lionel Messi, scheduled for December 13 at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Attendees will witness a friendly match pitting Messi’s team against the team of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The invitation to Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi was extended by the Chief Minister during a visit to Delhi.
For this hour-long event, stringent security measures are in place. Approximately 39,000 fans are expected, with 2,500 police officers assigned for crowd management. Only those with tickets will be permitted entry, and traffic regulations will be enforced in the bustling Uppal area, with dedicated routes for VIPs, including Messi, Rahul Gandhi, and Chief Minister Reddy.
Messi is expected to arrive at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 4 p.m. before heading to the Taj Falaknuma Hotel and then to the stadium. Following the match, he will return to the hotel. CM Revanth Reddy, wearing jersey number 9, has been training with his squad, while Messi will don his renowned number 10 jersey.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has called on football enthusiasts to arrive early for smooth entry and safety, anticipating thousands of fans. IT Minister Sridhar Babu mentioned that Messi’s participation also supports a social cause alongside the friendly match.
This match forms part of the state’s “Telangana Rising” celebrations. Authorities aspire for Messi to serve as a global ambassador for Telangana, enhancing its image in sports, tourism, youth engagement, and investment avenues. The event underscores the region's increasing passion for major sports events while aiming to portray Telangana as a vibrant and dynamic locale globally.
