In a significant step towards advancing India’s artificial intelligence sector, Reliance Industries has revealed its intention to build a 1 gigawatt AI data centre in Andhra Pradesh, as stated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. This state-of-the-art facility is set to accommodate advanced GPUs, TPUs, and other processors tailored for AI, establishing it as a “fully modular, future-ready” structure.
The new data centre is designed to complement an existing gigawatt-scale AI centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, effectively creating one of Asia’s most formidable AI computing networks.
To ensure sustainable operations, Reliance also plans to implement a 6 GWp solar power project in the region. This initiative aims to significantly increase Andhra Pradesh’s existing ground-mounted solar capacity, harnessing its solar potential to provide clean energy for the data centre.
Reliance emphasizes that this venture extends beyond just infrastructure; it aims to democratise AI. Via its MyJio platform, the company aspires to make “professional-grade AI tools” accessible to students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and households across India.
This investment also strengthens Reliance’s presence in Andhra Pradesh, where the firm has already invested over $25 billion in various sectors including telecom (Jio), retail, and oil-and-gas.
While financial specifics of this AI centre have not been publicly released, the agreement was finalized during the CII Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam, attended by CM Naidu and state minister Nara Lokesh.
This announcement coincides with Google’s substantial investment, committing $15 billion over five years to develop its own 1 GW AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam.
