Russian Drone Attack Hits Odesa, Homes Damaged and Children Injured

Russian Drone Attack Hits Odesa, Homes Damaged and Children Injured

Post by : Meena Ariff

Russia carried out a large-scale overnight drone assault on Ukraine’s Odesa region, damaging residential buildings and key infrastructure and leaving four civilians injured, including three children, regional authorities said on Wednesday.

The drone strikes were reported across several locations in the region, with residential neighbourhoods, logistics hubs, and energy-related facilities among the targets. The attack unfolded during the night, catching many residents off guard and forcing families to seek shelter as explosions echoed across the area.

Odesa, a strategically important Black Sea port city, has faced repeated aerial assaults since the start of the war. Once again, the city experienced significant disruption as drones penetrated air defences and struck close to civilian homes. In several districts, debris from intercepted drones and direct impacts caused visible destruction to high-rise apartment buildings.

Windows were blown out, building facades were scorched, and fires broke out in parts of the affected structures. Thick smoke filled the night sky as emergency response teams, including firefighters and rescue workers, rushed to extinguish the flames and evacuate residents from damaged buildings. Authorities said some residents were temporarily displaced while safety inspections were carried out.

Among the injured were a seven-month-old infant, two other children, and a 42-year-old man. Medical teams provided immediate treatment, and all victims were taken to nearby hospitals for further care. Officials said their conditions were being closely monitored, though no fatalities were reported.

The Odesa region has remained a frequent target in the conflict due to its economic and strategic importance. Attacks have repeatedly focused on transport corridors, port facilities, and energy infrastructure, disrupting daily life and commercial activity while placing civilians at continued risk.

Despite ongoing efforts to strengthen air defence systems, authorities warn that drone attacks remain a serious threat, particularly in densely populated areas. Local officials said damage assessments are still underway, and repair crews have begun restoring electricity, clearing debris, and securing damaged buildings.

Emergency services continue to operate at heightened readiness as the region braces for potential further strikes, while residents face yet another night marked by uncertainty and disruption.
